ResourcesWhen starting out – sometimes you can feel that you are all alone, you are not.  Here are just a few of the many Hampton Roads resources available – to help you get your idea off the ground and accelerating to success.  (These resources are not listed in specified order nor is this list intended to be an exhaustive reference.   The list is open to additions, please let us know if you would like to have your organization and/or business included.)

  • ODU Institute for Innovation & Entrepreneurship. ODU-IIE is a one-stop shop for the community, students, faculty/staff and alumni seeking resources and services for innovation, entrepreneurship, and new enterprises and programs. We help build lasting relationships between the community, industry, and academia to improve society and the economy.    The Institute contains the Strome Entrepreneurial Center (SEC), Innovation Center NorfolkTempO, the Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC), the Women’s Business Center (WBC), and the Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC).
  • 757Pitch  Presented by Old Dominion University Institute for Innovation & EntrepreneurshipODU-IIE TempO, and – 757Pitch is Hampton Roads, Virginia’s premier bi-monthly open competition for new, high-growth business ideas. 7 minutes of pitch time is given to each of 5 teams. The winner is awarded $757 and access to the resources of the  Old Dominion University Institute for Innovation & Entrepreneurship TempO program to help develop their idea into a marketable solution and turn that solution into a sustainable business.
  • Business Development Center at ODU.  The Business Development Center (BDC) at ODU helps Virginia entrepreneurs and businesses develop and grow their business. BDC provides personalized business advising services, training workshops, mentoring, and adaptive general support. They serve small, mid, and large businesses across a wide range of venture stages, from new businesses to existing businesses looking to scale. They offer highly effective support to businesses aimed at qualifying for and obtaining state and federal government contracts. We use a tiered approach to business development tailored to each client’s needs.
  • SCORE OF HAMPTON ROADS offers experienced mentors with decades of expertise in many areas of business including government contracting, manufacturing, hospitality, marketing, financial industries, and computing. SCORE provides free face-to-face meetings and low-cost workshops and events designed to enable entrepreneurs to succeed and thrive in today’s challenging business climate. From helping start-up entrepreneurs get their small businesses off the ground to helping established small businesses grow and flourish, our mentors are ready to assist with all manner of business advice and guidance.
  • Startwheel  StartWheel’s mission is to centralize and mobilize efforts that foster the growth of entrepreneurism in our regional innovation economy. They aim to support and cultivate an entrepreneurial network in HRVA where talent, resources, information, and leadership come together.
  • Retail Alliance is committed to strengthening the retail community by championing success, education and building lasting relationships far beyond membership. They provide many benefits to their members through education, advocacy, and products & services.
  • The City of Norfolk Economic Development has made the lists of Entrepreneur Magazine as a Top 5 City for Entrepreneurs. USA Today named Norfolk a Millennial Magnet based upon the population of 20-29-year-olds being greater than the teen population. There are a host of other accolades including the designation of downtown zip code 23510 as the third-best Hipster neighborhood in the nation by RealtyTrac.
  • Percolator is a collaborative, creative community for entrepreneurs, startups, and innovators in the heart of downtown Norfolk.  Membership includes workspace, conference rooms, benefits & discounts, and events.
  • Norfolk State University Innovation Center – On the Main serves as a business incubator to develop business competitiveness, jobs creation, investment opportunities, infrastructural improvements, global inclusion, and participation.
  • 757 Accelerate is a non-profit startup accelerator program. Their mission is to provide startups with the customized resources and capital they need to grow. 757 Accelerate boosts promising startups towards customer traction and revenue using a network of mentors, investors, support services, working space and lean startup education.
  • 757 Angels seek to provide risk-adjusted returns for its members and investors and to catalyze the economy. 757 Angels is a select network of over 100 business and community leaders in the Hampton Roads region, who provide investment capital, strategic advice and mentoring to selected startup and early-stage companies to help them achieve market leadership. 757 Angels seek deal flow from the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • 1Million Cups  is a program of the Kauffman Foundation, 1 Million Cups works with entrepreneurs, empowering them with the tools and resources to break down barriers that stand in the way of starting and growing their businesses through weekly business pitches.    Mr. Kauffman believed it was a fundamental right for anyone who had a big idea to be able to bring it to life—and we’re here to fulfill that mission.
  • Biz Connect  one of the areas best networking groups for building quality relationships, obtaining referrals and growing your business. We help businesses grow through networking, business development workshops, and valuable connections.
  • The IncuHub brings together entrepreneurs looking to grow and connect.  Private offices as well as a coworking space, all located within a federally designated HUBZone.  Executive coaching comes with membership via an active advisory board and Entrepreneur in Residence.
